Dear Doctors: Harsh Social Media Truths
1️⃣ If you’re not searchable, your ideal patients won’t find you. Own your online reputation. It’s not that hard once you get clear on who you are, who you can help, and how you want to show up.
2️⃣ Posting once a month doesn’t make you “active on social.” You should aim for 2-3 times per week on the platform you like best + your audience is on.
3️⃣ AI IS A TOOL! Not a replacement for your brain, heart, and soul. (Plus, we can tell when it’s written by a robot)
4️⃣ Speak in language your audience understands. If you’re speaking to peers, it’s fine to use medical terminology. If it’s patients, write as if you’re talking to a patient in your clinic. Be sure to answer “what’s in it for me”
5️⃣ You just need one focused hour a week to dedicate to social media (Message below or DM me... I’ll send you a free guide to show you how!)
6️⃣ Save being “sterile” for the OR. Sprinkle some personality into your brand. Not only does it help you stand out... it’s what people connect with.
7️⃣ When someone shares your post, you’ve struck gold. In most cases, this is the goal. Shares > likes. Every share expands your reach and amplifies your reputation.
8️⃣ Clearly define your goals, then post to these platforms:
- Want to reach patients ➡️ Instagram
- Want to reach peers? ➡️ X & LinkedIn
- Want to reach industry? ➡️ LinkedIn
- Want to go viral for something unique? ➡️ TikTok
- Want to have group discussions with patients? ➡️ Facebook
- Want to grow your reputation / thought leadership? ➡️ The combo of LinkedIn, X and Instagram (this is typically what I recommend to clients) + now I’m really liking Substack for longer form writing!! 😉
